... An Island Adventure

Great River Adventure: The forms and information sheets are on the "Great River Adventure"  page. (GO THERE) for both The Roaring Bull Canoe and Kayak Race on June 2, 2012 and The Island Hopper Event on June 23, 2012.  See you there!

Update June 1, 2012 at 11 AM:  Everything is ready and set to go.

* The river level is at little high but still safe and should make for a fast trip without any worries about the ledges. The rain this afternoon should not affect the river much.  Should be a fast start.

*  The forecast is sunny and not too warm.

* Get to the put-in before 9 to unload and run the shuttle to be back by 9:45 for instructions.

*  If you have not registered yet, no problem.  Print out the registration form, the waiver, and bring a check.  Registration opens at 8 at the south side of the east shore Mahantango Creek off Rt. 147 just before you go over the bridge.

* Any questions? dmdjdm@comcast.net or 717-766-2214.

Mission Statement:

SRTA  promotes sustainable use of the river and works toward the continued stewardship of the river and surrounding watershed in partnership with private individuals, environmental and recreational organizations, and government agencies at local, county, state, and federal levels. SRTA also works with other organizations toward the goal of a continuous water trail the length of the Susquehanna River and its tributaries.

The 51-mile trail extends from Sunbury to Harrisburg, incorporating 22 campsites on 20 different islands designated for day use and primitive camping. Access sites serve as trail heads with enticing, naturalistic signage welcoming visitors to the River Trail. Canoeing and kayaking are promoted as great ways to experience this unique wilderness.  The River Trail is managed in partnership with the  PA Department of Conservation & Natural Resources, the PA Fish & Boat Commission, and a nonprofit Susquehanna River Trail Association, Inc.   Volunteer individuals or groups can adopt islands to serve as stewards for maintenance, monitoring resource impacts, and tracking public use. Management techniques and use levels will continually be evaluated to insure resource protection and a positive experience for the visitor.
