Susquehanna River Trail Middle Section
2017 ROARING BULL RACES & FAMILY PADDLE
The Susquehanna River Trail Association is again sponsoring the Roaring Bull Canoe, Kayak, and Stand Up Paddleboard Race on Saturday June 3, 2017. The course goes from the mouth of Mahantango Creek to Wiconisco Creek in Millersburg on a beautiful section of the Susquehanna River. A leisurely family paddle will also be offered. Come join in the fun!
The competitive race course is nine miles and the recreational race course and family paddle route is approximately six miles. The family paddle includes a stop at island 101b for a rest break and to showcase a river trail campsite. The races again have a multitude of classes for men and women, singles and doubles, and all sizes and types of canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards.
The event serves the regional paddling community and introduces new paddlers to the river accompanied by seasoned guides. Included in the $25 registration fee are coffee and donuts; morning shuttles; safety support; door prizes; race awards; t-shirts; and an All-American picnic at MYO Park in Millersburg at the conclusion of the race and family paddle. Fee discounts are available for SRTA members and early registration. Check-in begins at 8:00 a.m. at the launch site. Shuttles depart MYO Park at 9:20 a.m.to return to the launch site. Safety talks begin at 9:45 a.m. followed by the start of the family paddle and the race at 10:00 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. respectively.

After much discussion we have decided to run the Roaring Bull Race and the non-competitive Family Paddle on the same day with the same starting location (Manangango Creek) and same post event picnic (MYO Park). This is a good event and we are working to make it better and get more participation. The event fees will stay the same as last year..

8:00 Registration opens for Roaring Bull Race and Family Explorer Paddle
14 Bells Lane, Dalmatia, PA, off Rt. 147 on north side of Mahantango Creek
Hot beverage and donuts
Unload boats and gear down by the stream
9:00 Send all drivers to MYO Park- push them “out”
MYO Park, MYO Park Road, Millersburg, PA off Rt. 147 south side of Wiconisco Creek
9:20 Drivers catch bus back to Mahantango Registration Area
9:45 Racers meeting and safety talk
Send safety boaters out, place buoy for Competitive Races (if not sooner)
10:00 Racers leave in mass or Competitive Racers first and Recreational Racers second
11:00 First Races likely to arrive at Wiconisco
Picnic to be ready and to be served in the pavilion
11:30 When last racers arrive- awards immediately, door prizes, t-shirt displayed (one per participant)
